Bearings

The bearings supporting the bells are relatively young having been replaced when the bells were rehung in 1950. These are ball bearings, before 1950 the bells swung on plain bushes and ringing was much harder work.

One of these replacement bearings failed ten years ago. Luckily this was on number 2 bell which was small enough for us to be able to lift it ourselves and replace both bearings. The bearings on all the other bells appear to be sound but we plan to replace them all as a precautionary measure whilst the bells are out of the tower.
